Bloom

Does anyone else struggle to title their work? I sure do! This lady first lived as a sketch in my notebook before I gifted her a garden and watched her bloom into color. While I favor a slightly more precise approach with other types of paintings it was fun to experiment and slap some paint around. The engrossing nature of creation is something I’m sure a lot of us can relate to as a meditative experience, I swear I looked at the clock and four hours had flown by! Something that’s hard to see but is a fun detail when holding it in your hands is that while the woman is flush to the canvas weave, the flowers are painted so thickly there’s a discernable raised texture to run your fingers along. I know it’s bad but it’s so hard not to touch paintings!

One of my small joys in life is visiting the art supply store and running my hands along the full wall of fabrics. I like to feel the rapid changes in texture and weight as I walk through the aisle. Speaking of fabric, a very kind friend gifted me big bags of fabric recently and since then I’ve been working on making quilts. Would anyone be interested in seeing the process?

Thanks for stopping by and spending time with me, friends, I’m glad I can share my art with you!

Love, Allyson
